Momma-to-be, Caitlin, reached out for a Summer Adventure Session (Maternity style) and I was like “aww, yes!!!” And THEN she was like “I love Jerrys Sno Cones.” And then I was all ” awww YAAASSSSSS,” anybody who’s pregnant in the summer has an automatic RIGHT to Jerry’s at any time. Now that they’ve opened a second location in Cordova, I’m ALLLLLLL about it – that convenience is dangerous.
For all you non-Memphians (or Memphians who live under a rock), Jerry’s Sno Cones is THE BOMB. So many flavors, so delicious, and SO summer-friendly it’s ridiculous.
Sweet little Blakely got to enjoy some yummy sno cone while we took some pretty cute pictures awaiting her debut! These guys are gonna crush parenting. I have a sense about such things. Here’s to the adorable Miller family!
Let me start off by saying that I’ve never been anywhere like Colorado. I thought I had seen mountains. I mean, we’re from Tennessee and my family has traveled to the Appalachian mountains before.. from what I can recall, that looked a bit more like high jungles – this is nothing like that. Amidst all my Summer Adventure Sessions, I had the Hartelust family session and it was awesome!
First, let’s discuss the Crosstown Concourse for a hot minute. IT’S FREAKIN’ AWESOME. It’s seriously a Summer photo dream. So much natural light AND AC? WHAT. It has this cool little library area you can sit and chill, random seating areas, restaurants, seriously the list goes on and on. Second, let’s talk about Amy. Aside from being an adorable human being, she’s an incredibly talented artist!! I first met Amy when I was making felt flowers and we had our booths next to each other at a pop-up at the then-empty Falling Into Place. I’ve loved her work from the moment I saw it! I’m a frequent-flyer on those drool-worthy christmas ornaments every year.
Fun little secret, Amy reached out to me back in May about a photography session for the fam and she’s what sparked my idea of the Adventure Sessions! Amy said that she hadn’t really had pictures taken since Amelia was born (Amelia is 1 now!) and wanted to have some new family photos. We scheduled the session for mid-summer (they were moving so we waited til things died down a bit) and went about our lives.
Little Amelia recently overcame a super-scary virus (HUGE shoutout to the place I dread going to, but am SO thankful is there – Le Bonheur) the week before our session. Rescheduling a session was a no-brainer, I seriously can’t imagine what the Hartelusts have been through, but behold! Amelia was a little ray of sunshine come session time!
(insert thankful momma tear here)
One of my preview posts had a comment that this family is like a JCrew ad, uhh, truth. As a GROUP they’re so incredibly photogenic! Little Amelia and her amazing older sister, Lily, are both total naturals in front of the camera and the apple didn’t fall far from the tree, folks.
This Adventure Session was all about exploring Tuscumbia, Alabama, Presley Style.
Tuscumbia has always been one of my favorites when we go to the pickwick lakehouse. A cute little downtown, Helen Keller’s birthplace and Alabama’s Music Hall of Fame are just a few of the pieces of this historical town.
Our afternoon consisted of playground time, rollercoasters, train rides and carousels in the park. All polished off with a round of ice cream at The Palace.
I have legit wanted to take pictures in the ice cream shop The Palace for several years and yesterday, I DID. This session isn’t *technically* a session, but any excuse to document is always welcome by me. I always take my camera on family vacations (as you can see on instagram) but piecing together an album of our Summer Adventures is on the to-do list this year!
If you’re thinking your summer may need a bit of documenting too, you can read more about session information here.
Bright and sunny (+ HOT) Saturday mornings are way more fun with these kiddos. They are so funny and colorful they are just awesome to be around. Twins are a handful to say the least, but little Bradford and Anna Kate are TOO sweet (+mama Blair makes it look too easy).
When we scheduled the Adventure Session I wondered where to go. Arkansas is sneaky-beautiful with the mountains and trees as far as you can see. I thought maybe it could be fun to meet in the Mountain Home town square or maybe even have pictures while shooting off the colleges fireworks.. BUT when Pop-Pop and Granny own the marina, you HAVE to hang out at the marina.
Painted bright colors, the family-run Quarry Marina is the perfect setting for a Summer Adventure Session. Feeding the fish, hopping on boats & raiding the freezer for Dippin’ Dots – these kids are living the lake-dream. I hope one day Bradford or Anna Kate can look to these pictures and immediately remember how fun it was to go see Pop-Pop and Granny at the store and eat ice cream on the benches.
This Adventure session was with an amazing photog momma (who, P.S., was a fellow dance team member per 2004) and her two girls! We hung out while they made chocolate chip cookies, ate the batter (yum) and washed it down with lemonade.
Talking to Katie, she said she is a big picture-taker at home (I mean duh)but rarely gets in front of the camera. I’ve had the same thoughts, so when she said she wanted to do an Adventure Session with an activity she does with the girls often, like baking, I was alllllll for it. Get in front of those cameras, mom!
What goes better on a sunny summer day than chocolate chip cookies and lemonade? Cousin Maddox, that’s who!
